AROS mobilisation phase ends – and happy holidays from us

As we approach the end of 2025, we are pleased to share a significant milestone in the establishment of AROS. Following the recent announcement of the Co-CEOs and months of planning and recruitment, we can now confirm that the senior AROS team and first members of the Strategic Advisory Board have been appointed.

The AROS team themselves will share news of these appointments in the new year, marking the beginning of their work as a new organisation dedicated to tackling systemic racism in Scotland.

A change in the hosting role

With the AROS senior team now in place, this marks the end of the mobilisation phase and brings with it a natural transition in the role of the AROS hosting team. Throughout the mobilisation phase, we have worked to lay the foundations for AROS, managing the recruitment processes, initiating first engagement with communities across Scotland, and establishing the structures needed to support this new body.

Now, as AROS begins its work as a functioning organisation, we are stepping back from the immediate frontline role. Our hosting responsibility will shift to one of ongoing support as the AROS team takes the lead in shaping and delivering its strategic vision.

The coming months will be a period of transition, during which we will hand over assets, including this website and other resources, to the AROS team. AROS will continue to update you here and through the AROS Newsletter, so please do sign up to stay informed.

A moment of reflection

As the hosting team, we are pleased to have reached this stage and to see AROS become a reality. But we also recognise that we have been just one piece in a much larger puzzle. We are deeply grateful to the many individuals, organisations, and communities who have carried this work forward over many years — those who advocated, researched, campaigned, and organised long before we became involved. Their persistence and vision made this moment possible, and we are honoured to have been the latest carriers of the torch they have carried forward for many years.

A collective commitment

Whatever our individual thoughts and experiences of this journey may be, one thing is clear: the establishment of AROS represents a real and unprecedented milestone. While AROS is not yet fully independent, it is now here as a new organisation, and this marks a significant moment. It reflects a commitment from the Scottish Government that has not been seen before, and it opens up new possibilities for addressing systemic racism in Scotland.

AROS belongs to all of us. Building a fairer Scotland is work that can only be achieved together, with communities at the centre, and with a shared determination to create lasting change.

Looking ahead

So as we approach the festive season and the end of the mobilisation phase, we want to thank everyone who has engaged with this work  those who applied for roles, attended the initial community sessions we hosted, provided feedback, or simply followed our updates with interest and hope. Your participation and support have been vital.

We wish you all a peaceful Christmas and New Year. And as we move into the new year, it will be with a Scotland that has AROS as a functioning organisation, marking a significant step forward in the journey towards racial justice.
