We’re excited to share an important milestone in the development of AROS. As of this week, we’ve officially launched the recruitment campaign for the founding Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – or Co-CEOs, if a job-share approach works better for the right candidates.
This is a key step in establishing AROS as Scotland’s new, community-led organisation dedicated to tackling systemic racism. Funded by the Scottish Government and hosted by the University of Strathclyde, with the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER) providing anti-racism expertise, AROS is being built to lead a new phase in the national response to racial injustice.
The appointment of a CEO is one of the most important early steps for AROS. This person (or people) will be responsible for setting the tone and direction of the organisation. They will lead the development of strategy, build the team, and make sure the systems and partnerships are in place to deliver AROS’ ambitious vision. That includes creating a comprehensive picture of racial inequalities in Scotland, building an accessible digital evidence base, and leading national conversations that centre the voices of those most affected by racism.
We are committed to recruiting in a way that reflects the values at the heart of AROS: inclusion, transparency, co-production and community voice. We know that leadership in anti-racism doesn’t always look like what’s traditionally been seen as leadership and we’re keeping the door wide open to different types of experience and ways of working. That’s why we’re inviting applications not only from individuals but also from those interested in sharing the role through a co-leadership model.
We know there are brilliant people working in communities, activism, research, policy and public life who have the insight, passion and skills to take on this role. We’re looking for someone who can not only speak truth to power, but also build a collaborative, sustainable organisation.
Please also keep an eye out for other AROS roles soon to be advertised, including for the AROS Advisory Board.
As we continue setting up AROS, we’ll keep using these blog updates to share progress and stay connected with communities and stakeholders. Our work so far has been shaped by powerful contributions from community voices and expert guidance and that will continue. We’re at the beginning of something new, and, as the AROS host, we’re committed to building it the right way, together.
We hope you’ll share this opportunity widely, and stay with us on the journey as we move one step closer to launching AROS as Scotland’s national anti-racism observatory.
